FROM RESEARCH TO PRODUCT - campus innovations in infection diagnostics

As a public-private partnership, the InfectoGnostics Research Campus Jena is breaking new ground in the diagnosis of infections. More than 30 partners from science, medicine and industry are working together to develop innovative solutions for the rapid and cost-effective on-site diagnosis of infectious diseases. The research campus supports diagnostic projects from the initial scientific concept through to clinical application. Along a clear innovation path, research, clinical trials and industrial implementation are interlinked so that new procedures can be put into practice more quickly. Innovative photonic and molecular biological methods are developed and combined at the research campus in order to reliably detect infectious agents (especially viruses, bacteria and fungi) and antibiotic resistance and to better understand the host response (e.g. in sepsis). The triad of technology, application and production results in laboratory and rapid tests for use in human and veterinary medicine as well as for food safety. This unique cooperation between public and private partners on an equal footing breaks down barriers to the establishment of new diagnostics: Promising solutions from basic research are thus brought more quickly to the diagnostic routine and thus to users and patients in the form of market-ready products.
